Do the Ingredients in Fibrolief Really Relieve Fibromyalgia Symptoms?

FibroliefFibrolief has an impressive list of ingredients, but do they really work? In our review we will go through every ingredient and see if it can help relieve Fibromyalgia symptoms.

The list of ingredients in Fibrolief is impressive. Let’s do a rundown of every group of ingredients and each one in particular and see how it can contribute to relieving Fibromyalgia symptoms.

Fibrolief Ingredients for Pain and Inflammation

Turmeric / Curcumin

Turmeric has been used for thousand of years for its potent pain relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. It is commonly known that turmeric has no side effects and it is used by fibromyalgia sufferers to soothe pain.

Usually, Curcumin is absorbed by the body at a slow rate, but Fibrolief also introduced BioPerine (C) among the ingredients to increase its effectiveness by 2000%.

Boswellia AKBA (ApresFlex)

Boswellia has been used for quite some time in combination with Curcumin, especially in India, to relieve arthritis pain. The type of Boswellia that’s present in Fibrolief, Boswellia Serrata, is highly concentrated and it has been proven to increase joint mobility.

Boswellia is renowned for its ability to fight inflammation. These anti-inflammatory effects could benefit fibromyalgia and arthritis by including many processes that the body uses to heal itself. One double blind and placebo-controlled study found that Boswellia reduced pain symptoms associated with osteoarthritis.

White Willow Bark Extract

Salicin is the active ingredient in White Willow Bark Extract and it acts as an anti-inflammatory and diminishes pain by inhibiting prostaglandins.

An experiment at Cairo University compared Willow Bark Extract to ASA (aspirin), and discovered that the extract was just as effective, if not more, at reducing inflammation than aspirin. As a general health tip: ditch the aspirin for White Willow Bark, because the latter is less irritating to the stomach lining.

Celery Seed Extract

The uses of Celery Seed Extract include relieving fibromyalgia, arthritis and gout pain. It is known to alleviate bloating and painful gas and to reduce muscle spasms. It is also known help reduce inflammation, thus improving the painful symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Flavonoids are high in antioxidants and they can be found in Celery Seed Extract. In one study, patients suffering from joint discomfort experienced improved flexibility and reduced tenderness in 68% of patients.

Fibrolief Ingredients for Increased Energy

Malic Acid/Malate

Malic acid works with magnesium to promote the production of ATP – the body’s source of energy. In a study published in 1992 in the “Journal of Nutritional Medicine,” magnesium and malic acid were found to be important for ATP production. They also revealed fibromyalgia symptoms can be related with a deficiency in magnesium and malate.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine is an amino acid from a group that represents protein building blocks that help the body create energy. But this is just one of several forms of carnitines in your body. These carnitines transport certain fatty foods to the mitochondria to be burned as fuels, but also to carry away the waste products resulting from these processes.

All of the carnitines in the body are antioxidants, and Acetyl-L-Carnitine has been shown to improve fatigue caused by fibromyalgia and celiac disease, thus improving endurance.

Rhodiola Rosea

Rhodiola Rosea is part of a class of herbs called adaptogens, which is known to enhance stress resistance. In herbal medicine, Rhodiola Rosea is commonly used to treat depression, fatigue, poor attention span, memory issues and sleep problems.

One 4-week study with 82 participants concluded that Rhodiola Rosea greatly helped with fatigue and dysfunction caused by stress. On the other hand, improvements were observed in work and social function, but also reduced fatigue and improved mood.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)

CoQ10 can be naturally found in the body, but the production of CoQ10 decreases with age. However, you can remedy this deficiency by supplementing with natural CoQ10 products. A recent study by the University of Maryland revealed that this vitamin-like substance could improve energy levels, reduce brain damage caused by stroke and enhance the body’s tolerance and recovery from exercise.

Coenzyme Q10 promotes energy production in the body in the form of ATP – just like 95% of the energy in the human body is produced. CoQ10 helps transform food into energy, thus helping metabolism. Three different studies revealed using 100mg of CoQ10 per day yields significant results from a statistically point of view, especially when combined with a daily supplement containing riboflavin and magnesium citrate.

Fibrolief Ingredients for Mental Clarity

Bacopa Monnieri

Bacopa Monnieri has been used for quite some time to improve memory, mental alertness and concentration. Bacopa may also help enhance cognitive function and preserve memory, and several studies can attest to this claim.

One 2008 study on older adults revealed that after a period of 12 weeks of supplementing with Bacopa Monnieri, the subjects experienced significant improvements in memory, anxiety, heart rate and depression. Another study, this time from 2001, revealed the subjects experienced considerable improvements in learning, memory and anxiety.

SAM-e is made from ATP and the amino acid methionine. Its effectiveness for arthritis pain has been shown in several studies, as were anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

SAM-e has been available by prescription as an antidepressant. The renowned Italian physician, Dr. Ascanio Polimeni, said “… doctors in Europe prescribe SAM-e for the therapy of many conditions, including fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and depression.”

This ingredient has also been deemed effective by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service, which commissioned a three-year survey of studies conducted on SAM-e. The final report concluded that SAM-e works to treat depression and osteoarthritis, with no side effects. SAM-e works best if you take it with vitamins B12 or folic acid.

“SAM-e can be effective in reducing symptoms of fibromyalgia – including pain, morning stiffness, fatigue and depressed mood,” stated the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Fibrolief Ingredients for Biological Function

Magnesium can be found in all of your tissue and is responsible for more than 300 enzyme reactions. It’s mainly prominent and possesses the most importance in your brain, bones and muscles. A recent estimate revealed somewhere between 60% and 80% of Americans have a Magnesium deficiency.

Studies have shown Magnesium can improve the quality of sleep, but it also works to fight stress. The cells in your body need Magnesium to generate energy, as it is needed for many chemicals pump to work, to stabilize membranes and to relax muscles.

Many people can be sensitive to various form of Magnesium as they are supplied in high quantities. To prevent any GI complications, it appears that Fibrolief has included 5 different forms of Magnesium to ensure maximum absorption.

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is essential for the absorption and metabolism of calcium and phosphorus. These two help maintain and even strengthen bones and teeth to prevent disorders. Vitamin D3 is included in Fibrolief as it is a crucial ingredient in reducing the symptoms of Fibromyalgia.

Vitamin D3 has been shown to reduce the risk of rheumatoid arthritis in women and also protects against immune system issues and muscle weakness.

Greg Plotnikoff, MD, senior consultant with the Allina Center for Health Care Innovations in Minnesota published a study in 2003 on 150 people who came to a health clinic complaining of chronic pain. It has been shown that almost all of them – 93% – had extremely low vitamin D levels.

Benfotiamine (B1) | Methylcobalamin (B12) | Folic Acid

Fibrolief is packed with the most bioavailable forms of B vitamins. Several studies on Fibromyalgia sufferers have shown low levels of vitamin B1 and reduced activity of some thiamine-dependent enzymes.

Symptoms of fatigue are usually reported along with B12 deficiency. The vitamin is vital for converting carbs into glucose and B12 levels are linked to decreased fatigue and lethargy and increased energy production. These B vitamins also help increase the level of SAM-e in the body.

Folic Acid is thought to play in important role in mood regulation.

Fibrolief only uses the most bioavailable forms of these ingredients and, unlike other supplements, does not use the cheaper and more common thiamine (B1) and cyanocobalamin (B12).

Stabilized R-Alpha Lipoic Acid

R-ALA is a powerful antioxidant that is both fat and water soluble, which develops the function of cell “transporters” that carry and distribute glucose. R-ALA is one of the few known substances that can cross the blood/brain barrier and go straight from the brain to where it’s needed most.

R-ALA is the only antioxidant that can self-regenerate, but also regenerate other antioxidants, including B vitamins. Most supplements choose the cheaper and less effective S-ALA, but studies and researchers have revealed R-ALA can be up to 12 times more effective than its inexpensive counterpart.

B vitamins and R-ALA are absolutely vital ingredients in helping to reduce the symptoms of fibromyalgia and ease nerve pain.

Zinc is a potent antioxidant and a mineral that can improve immune function. Zinc is directly involved in cell division, thus it is very important since it can be found in every tissue in the body. Studies have shown that more than half the population in the United States has low Zinc levels. If you suffer from Fibromyalgia, having normal Zinc levels can be very important if you want to keep your immune system strong.

The European Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a study in 2010 showing zinc supplementation may be effective for depression and may improve mood in women.

Black Pepper Bioperine

Derived from black pepper, Bioperine is an extract that enhances the bioavailibity of several nutrients. It has multiple properties, including fighting depression, enhancing immunity and inhibiting tumors.

An article published in the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine in 2010, Bioperine has been shown to increase the absorption of vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B-6, coenzyme Q, selenium and beta-carotene.
