Great Health Benefits of Quinoa

Quinoa is such an amazing food and it’s time you find out more about it. Here are some benefits of quinoa.

Benefits of Quinoa

1. Quinoa is great for you because it’s one of the most protein-rich foods we can consume. It’s a complete protein food that contains all nine essential amino acids.

2. Quinoa has almost twice the fiber content when compared to most other grains. Fiber is good for you because it helps with constipation. It’s also very effective in preventing heart disease by lowering high blood pressure and diabetes. Fiber lowers glucose and cholesterol levels and may also benefit you by reducing the risk of developing hemorrhoids. Quinoa may help you lose weight because it takes a little longer time to chew than other foods. The reason behind it is that this grain crop makes you feel fuller for a longer period of time and it’s less “energy” dense – it has fewer calories for the same food volume.

3. Quinoa contains lysine, which is essential for tissue growth and repair. Lysine is also used in the treatment of cold sores.

4. Quinoa is rich in iron. Iron is the basis of hemoglobin formation and it helps keep the red blood cells healthy. Iron takes the oxygen from one cell to another and feeds oxygen to the muscles to help with their contraction. Iron is also good for the brain as it increases brain function. It is known that the brain takes in around 20% of the blood oxygen. Among other important health benefits of iron: it aids enzyme activity and energy metabolism, regulates body temperature and neurotransmitter synthesis.

5. Quinoa is high in manganese. Manganese is an antioxidant that protects mitochondria against damage during the energy production process. It also protects red blood cells and other cell types from injury by free radicals.

6. Quinoa is rich in magnesium. Magnesium alleviates migraines by helping to relax blood vessels. Several studies have shown that magnesium may also reduce Type 2 Diabetes by promoting healthy blood sugar controls. Other benefits of magnesium include energy production, detoxification, body temperature regulation and transmission of nerve impulses. Magnesium also has a role in the formation of healthy bones and teeth.

7. Quinoa has high Riboflavin levels (B2). B2 improves energy metabolism within muscle cells and brain cells and it is known to support proper energy production in cells.
