Cannabidiol was found to increase the number and activity of mitochondria, which is the powerhouse of cells, boosting the body’s ability to burn more calories. CBD was also shown to stimulate genes and proteins that improve the breakdown and oxidation of fats inside the body. In the study, Cannabidiol reduced the activity of proteins involved in generating new fat cells.

The results of this study showed that CBD is capable of inducing fat browning, which means it converts white adipose tissue that stores energy, to brown and beige adipose tissue that burns fat. This effect is also believed to improve glucose tolerance and less likely to develop diabetes and blood lipid diseases.
