Caffeine is part of our daily lives. Most of us can’t even walk straight without a cup of coffee in the morning. Statistics even show that aging makes us crave for even more caffeine. The problem with caffeine is that we are over-relying on it and it isn’t always good for us.
Luckily there are other alternatives to boost your energy levels that don’t involve any caffeine, so you can tone down on it a bit. Here is a list of ways you can increase your energy levels without caffeine.
Chew Some Gum
Gum isn’t good only to refresh your breath; it can also give your body a boost. A study made in the UK showed that people who chewed gum for 15 minutes had a burst of energy. This is due to the fact that chewing gum increases the heart rate which at the same time increases blood flow to the brain. It also stimulates the autonomic nervous system which makes you more alert. Next time you feel like you lack energy start chewing some gum.
Eat Whole Grains
Carbs found in modern day food aren’t good for your energy levels because they tend to boost you then make you crash. Fortunately, this isn’t the case with whole grains. By replacing three servings of refined carbs with whole grains you can increase your daily energy levels. Make sure you don’t exaggerate with the whole grains because you might start feeling drowsy. This happens because they can trigger a surge of serotonin. Eating a bowl of whole grains during breakfast should be enough.
Stay in the Sun
According to a recent Dutch study, standing 15 minutes in the sun might be all you need to feel more energized. Researchers noticed that people who were more in contact with daylight felt less fatigue than those who spent more time in the dark. The reason for this seems to be the fact that when your eyes are exposed to natural light the send a signal to the brain area responsible for alertness. Therefore, staying in contact with the sun as much as possible is good for you.
Massage Your Ears
This may seem a little odd, but by applying pressure to the outer rim of your ear may invigorate your body. The reason this happens is because your energy pathways go through your outer ear. The next time you feel exhausted, massage your ears for 10 to 30 seconds and you should feel better.
Walk it off
Studies show that walking can ward off the drowsiness. The reason this happens is because physical activity boosts your heart rate, metabolism and blood flow. Even a short walk can increase your energy levels so the next time you feel sleepy just walk to your coworker’s office or use the stairs instead of the elevator.
